Instructions

Start the oven: Make sure the oven is set to 350°F (175°C). Flour and butter two 9-inch round cake pans.

The dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the cake flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

To make it creamy, combine 3/4 cup of milk with softened butter and the dry ingredients. In approximately two or three minutes, while beating on medium speed, the mixture should be velvety smooth.

While the egg whites are whisked, combine the remaining milk, vanilla extract, egg yolks, and cream of tartar in a separate dish. Beat the batter on low speed until mixed, then gradually pour in the mixture.

To Bake: Evenly Distribute Batter Into Preparation Cake Pans. After 25 to 30 minutes in the oven, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean, it is done baking.

After ten minutes of cooling in the pan, transfer the cakes to wire racks to finish cooling. This is the last step before icing.
