Also remember to empty your freezer and store your food in coolers or insulated bags, to keep it frozen while you defrost your appliance.

Be careful, however, to avoid using a hammer or sharp objects to dislodge the ice. This could puncture or perforate the walls of the freezer.

Instead, use a wooden or plastic spatula. Also, don’t forget to put a mop at the bottom of the freezer to soak up any water that leaks out.

If the frost layer is not thick, you can simply keep the freezer door open, after unplugging it for 24 hours. The lack of electricity and the increase in temperature will cause the ice to melt.

To make it faster, you can soak a sponge in hot water and rub the walls of the freezer to soften the ice.

You can also fill a spray bottle with hot water and spray it on the walls to melt it. Using a wooden spatula, knock off the frost that is starting to soften.

On the other hand, if the layer of ice is thick, it is advisable to use boiling water. To do this, boil water in a saucepan and place it in your freezer, taking care to place it on a trivet.

Then, close the appliance and let it work for about 10 minutes. Finally, using a wooden spatula, detach the blocks of ice that are starting to melt.
